Why the Democratic Party is Hiding its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: A Deep Dive.

The action by the Democratic National Committee to block the release regarding its internal post-election analysis on the last presidential race appears remarkable yet not surprising. Resistant to frank assessments, the party's leadership apparatus operates closer to a publicity machine than a political organization committed to building grassroots capacities capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Culture Resistant to Internal Critique

Reluctant to break with the party establishment's culture of conformity, the DNC has remained under the influence of the previous administration throughout this past year. Releasing such a report would have indicated whether party leaders are interested to encourage public discourse regarding the errors which allowed Donald Trump to win re-election. However, the leadership is moving forward as if there is little to understand following the stunning loss from the last cycle.

The top priority: will this lead to victory? If not, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," a rationale reportedly given to justify concealing the document.

Critical Problems an Autopsy Could Have Explored

An autopsy report worth its salt would not dodge certain uncomfortable matters. Among them are:

  • Electoral Disengagement: Losing of millions of voters that backed the Democratic ticket during the previous election proved pivotal in the narrowly decided 2024 election.
  • A Insistence to Run: The stubborn choice by a party leader to run again, alongside a last-minute withdrawal, is seen by some as robbing Democratic voters the chance for open primaries.
  • Abandoning Core Democratic Voters: Amid rising costs, the campaign allegedly ceding to corporate donors' interests without successfully attempting to address the role of corporate greed.
  • A Foreign Policy Factor: The refusal to reconsider a policy position regarding a major international conflict reportedly led to losing key demographic groups, notably among young people, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • Eroding Youth Allegiance: Extensive evidence demonstrates a significant drop-off in Democratic support from young voters.

A Pattern of Evasion

The decision to withhold is consistent with a recurring tendency to avoid hard truths. It recalls a situation where virtually every elected Democrat in Washington went along with an incumbent's insistence on seeking another term right up until a poor televised debate compelled a change.

At the same time, overwhelming numbers of the electorate had been consistently telling researchers that they did not want that candidate to run again.

Campaign Spending Concerns

A substantive report would also probe matters regarding where money went, including the amounts were directed to high-priced advisors and advertising contractors during a campaign which expended a staggering war chest in a short period.

A Broader Problem

Ultimately, the blockage surrounding this report highlights a submission toward the existing power structure responsible for a disastrous national race. The implication for the party's base – including countless small donors – is that they do not have a right to understand the lessons the insiders say they discovered based on a report based on conversations with insiders.

A political entity incapable to critically review where it went wrong will struggle to escape the cycle that proved so advantageous to the rival party.
